About

Retro Rockets

Retro Rockets celebrates the deep heritage of science fiction and fantasy: yesterday, today, and tomorrow. If it’s older, we want to talk about it. Science Fiction takes steps forward every year. We got to where we are today, by stepping forward from where we were in years past. Where Science Fiction was, where Science fiction is . . . where will Science Fiction go next?

Retro Rockets was created by Andy Robins and Andrea Johnson, who met years ago through a local bookclub. Their friendship was cemented when they each learned that the other also had an overflowing home library and a love for dark beers and fine whisky.

Andrea Johnson

Andrea discovered scifi at the same age she learned about astronomy and dinosaurs, because why shouldn’t space ships and dinosaurs be in the same story? She ran the book review blog The Little Red Reviewer from 2010 -2021, and hosted Vintage SciFi Month during many of those years. She has been a contributor to Apex Magazine, Nerds of a Feather, and SFSignal.

Andy Robins

Andy discovered SciFi as a kid in the late 1960’s, devouring each new book by Andre Norton and Robert Heinlein. They are still among his favorite authors, along with writers as varied as Clifford D. Simak, Jack McDevitt, Ursula K. LeGuin, Christopher Priest, and Martha Wells. He also enjoys SF film and TV, with special fondness for Star Trek in all of its iterations, Babylon 5, Farscape, and Firefly, among others. Andy was a professional radio broadcast journalist before his retirement in 2021.
